Whiskey makes the world a better place to live in. For the life of me, I don't understand why "drink more whiskey" wasn't included in the 10 Commandments. It's literally the best thing on this earth (besides tacos...duh). As my name sake probably shows you, I fuggin LOVE whiskey. That being said, I make no apologies in advance for the majority of my cocktail recipes being whiskey based. When I'm not trying to develop/test a food recipe, best believe I'm thinking of new and exciting ways to make a new whiskey based cocktail.
Over the holidays I was in Trader Joe's when I saw something called Sugar Plum Jam on their shelves. I immediately knew what I wanted to do with it...pair it with booze! While I will concede that this recipe would be swell with some dark rum or even a mezcal, I loved it just the way I made it, with a good ole' rye whiskey.
The rosemary from my garden added an amazing herbal element to the cocktail that I didn't even know I wanted. The lemon zest on top, in addition to being incredibly aromatic, helped to brighten up an otherwise fairly heavy drink. As always, I encourage you to experiment with my recipes and make them your own! Want to add sage or thyme instead of rosemary? DO IT! It's your world baby!
Let me know how you plan on customizing your own Sugar Plum Smash :)
